Post-Doctoral Research Position in Multiscale Mechanics of Hierarchical Carbon-Based Materials

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position within the Micro and Nano Mechanics Laboratory. The successful candidate will participate in a vibrant interdisciplinary research group and will be involved in projects addressing multiscale mechanics of carbon-based and biomimetic hierarchical materials. We pursue a combined experimental-computational approach and expect the candidate to work in close collaboration with chemists and theoreticians.

Requirements:

  1. A Ph.D. in Physics, Chemistry, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related area is required.
  2. Working experience in nanoscale science and/or engineering, including at a minimum two of the following areas:
    1. Multiscale experimental mechanics of advanced materials
    2. In-situ SEM/TEM/Raman/AFM experimental characterization
    3. CNT-graphene functionalization with application to composite materials
    4. Mechanics of carbon based materials (carbon fibers/CNT fibers/CNT-graphene composites
    5. Atomistic Modeling
  3. A good record of publications
  4. Strong verbal and written communication skills.

The position is available immediately for a period of one year and may be renewed thereafter. Actual start date is negotiable. Applications will be reviewed immediately and continue to be accepted until the positions are filled. Interested candidates should submit a CV, a cover letter describing their research experience and interests, and the names and email addresses of at least three references to Horacio D. Espinosa at the address below.
